DETROIT WOMEN OF COLOR, INCORPORATED
Lifting the Voices of Black and Brown Girls and Women
FOR GIRLS ONLY
Change is Reel is a program for Black and Brown girls between 13 and 18 years old who live in Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park. Change is Reel is a joyful and healing opportunity for Black and Brown girls to stay connected, learn about resources, and teach them how to thrive during this powerful moment in history. Spaces are limited.
We are using the graphic novel adaption of Octavia Butler's book Parable of the Sower. Participants will examine the similarities between the challenges Laura Oya faced and their experiences during this important moment in history. The girls will share their vision of a better world for themselves and their communities through movement building and revolutionary practices of self-care and growing self-love.
HIGHER GROUND SERIES
Our Change is Reel program will host live stream sessions to connect with Black and Brown middle school and high school students in Detroit, Highland Park, and Hamtramck. Participants will have exclusive access to independent films by or about Black and Brown girls and women, watch parties, film masterclasses, obtain free self-love sessions, and more.
STAYING CONNECTED
